Attica Zoological Park in Greece near Athens

The Attica Zoological Park is a big zoo in Greece near Athens in the suburb of Spata. The Attica Zoological Park extends to a total area of 20 hectares, hosting more than 2000 animals from 350 different species. The Attica Zoological Park opened in May 2000, initially as a Bird Park, hosting the 3rd largest bird collection in the world. This enormous bird collection included 1100 birds from 300 different species. After it's opening in May 2000 this zoo has added some new animals to it's collections and today it has very wide variety of all kinds of animals.

The Attica Zoological Park has also dolphinarium that started 2010 when they got four dolphins bought from the Lithuanian Marine Institute. After that they have bought more dolphins and sea lions from various zoos and dolphinariums. The latest addition are dolphins bought from the Finnish Sarkanniemi dolphinarium that was closed last year. After several months of thinking Sarkanniemi sold their dolphins to the Attica Zoological Park. Some animal welfare activists have claimed that the Attica Zoological Park isn't paying enough attention to the animal welfare issues in their dolphinarium. The Greek courts haven't made any decisions about the issue and at the moment the Attica Zoological Park dolphinarium continues their business normally.

Wroclaw Zoo - Nice zoo in beautiful Polish city of Wroclaw

Wroclaw is one of the undervalued cities in Europe. Summer in Wroclaw is beautiful. Old town with square, river, nice and affordable restaurants and cafe's. Modern shopping centers and everything accessible by foot. Wroclaw has basicly everything people are expecting to see when they head to Prague or Budapest. In addition to this Wroclaw has one advantage over Prague or Budapest. In early August the nicest terrace at old town square you can still see local people and you are not competing about the last free tabel with thousands of other tourists. Wroclaw Magic Fountains are also popular place to visit. Wroclaw is not only nice old town, Wroclaw zoo is also worth visiting if you are there.

Wroclaw Zoo & Afrykarium is located few kilometres outside old town and center of the city. There is affordable public transport and taxis are also cheap in Poland. Wroclaw Zoo and Afrykarium is not expensive place to visit. Normal ticket is 40 PLN (~10€) and family ticket for two adults and two children is 120 PLN (~30€). There are also student and children discounts. Wroclaw zoo is definitely worth visiting if you are near Wroclaw. I guess you can spend there whole day but it's perfect for half day visits.

Barcelona Zoo - Wonderful zoo and dolphin show near Barcelona center

Barcelona Zoo is wonderful zoo located conveniently not too far from the Barcelona center. Barcelona zoo tickets include live dolphin shows few times a day.

Helsinki Zoo Korkeasaari - Zoo island next to Helsinki city

Korkasaari is a nice zoo in Helsinki Finland. Korkeasaari Zoo is actually a small island with 10-15 minutes boat ride from the Helsinki Market Square. There is also a bridge and bus connection for those who don't like boats. Most tourists go to Korkeasaari Zoo from Market Square where the boats go from May to September. Boats are wooden ferries or a paddle steamer and they go rather often especially on peak times. There are cafe and restaurant at Korkeasaari.

In Korkeasaari there are many animals from Asia, Norther America, Australia, Africa and South America. Most visitors especially like the possibility to see brown bears very closely through the glass window. Sometimes you can get very close to these bears.

If you have travelled and visited many zoos you will perhaps not be suprised by the number of exotic animals but you will most likely enjoy the beautiful nature of Korkeasaari. Also the ferry ride from Helsinki Market Square offers nice views for visitors.

Rome Zoo - Bioparco di Roma

In 2011 the Bioparco celebrated its 100th anniversary: inaugurated in 1911 and situated in the historical park of Villa Borghese, it is today one of Europe’s oldest zoological gardens. In 1935  the zoo was enlarged to its current surface area of 17 hectares. For tourists Bioparco is ideally located in the Villa Borghese park, which is a beautiful tourist attraction in itself.

Bioparco di Roma is is open every day of the year except for 25 December. Adult tickets to Bioparco cost 13€ and children (over 1m but under 12 years) 11€.

The best Zoo in Europe - Copenhagen Zoo - Zoo Kobenhavn

Copenhagen Zoo is open 365 days a year and it's located appr. 10 minutes bus ride from Copenhagen main railway station or Tivoli. Copenhagen Zoo is excellent 1/2 day visit for families visiting Copenhagen. In Copenhagen Zoo you can see elephants, camels, monkeys, lions, bears, ice bears and many other interesting animals. Copenhagen Zoo also has childrens play area and even the smallest children can enjoy visit at Copenhagen Zoo.

There are two restaurants at the Zoo: The family restaurant Provianten and Café Konnind's. Both restaurants are located close to the Entrance.

Prague Zoo - Zoo Praha

Prague Zoo is one of the best zoos in Europe. The Zoo is located few kilometres north from the Prague Center. In the map below you can find more details about the location of Prague Zoo.

June-August Prague Zoo is open daily 9-19. April, May, September and October Prague Zoo is open daily 9-18. In March Prague Zoo is open daily 9-17 and in November and December Prague Zoo is open daily 9-16. In January and February Prague Zoo is open on working days 9-16 and weekends 9-17.

Admission fees to Prague Zoo
Daily tickets for adults to Prague Zoo cost 150CZK (appr. 6,5€) and children 3-15 years 100CZK (appr. 4,2€). Prague Zoo tickets are relatively cheap compared to other European zoos.

The Prague Zoo is definetely worth visiting if you are travelling to Prague and for families with children the Prague Zoo can be a reason to travel to Prague.
